St. Peter Catholic
Church Religious Education
"To teach God's
message through Scripture and Tradition."
Our Philosophy
We at St. Peter Religious Education believe that our purpose is to assist
parents in the religious education of their children. The parent is the
child's first teacher, having educated the child in the most formative years;
and the Religious Education staff hopes to continue that Christian formation
that began in the home. The St. Peter Religious Education preschool,
elementary and junior high programs will support and assist our students in
their growth toward a mature faith and guide them in living Catholic
Christian lives. We are co-workers and need to work as a team, reinforcing
one another.
Staff
St. Peter's Religious Education Faculty and Staff is
comprised of a very large group of dedicated parishioners. The teachers participating
in our programs are all volunteers. These teachers are devoted to their
Christian education ministry. They are provided with educational assistance
and support to help with their teaching ministry. Anyone wishing to be part
of this ministerial group is encouraged to call the Religious Education
Office.
Programs
Three-Year Olds through Kindergarten
Classes are
held on Sunday mornings. The parish
offers a Preschool and Kindergarten Program.
The Early Childhood Program is for children ages three years old, by
Sept. 30th, through Kindergarten. Children must be completely
potty trained to attend. Classes are held in the day school classrooms and
begin in early September with Orientation for parents only held prior to the
beginning of classes.
Grades One through
Eight
Classes are held Sunday mornings or Wednesday nights
in the day school classrooms and include Sacramental Preparation class for
First Reconciliation and First Eucharist in second grade, and Confirmation in
Eighth grade. Classes begin in early September with Orientation for parents
only held prior to the beginning of classes.
Confirmation
Preparation
Confirmation is offered in the Eighth grade. Students must have completed the
seventh grade class in Religious Education or a Parochial Elementary
School. Confirmation preparation is presented
within the Eighth grade curriculum. Confirmation curriculum consists of
regular class attendance, participation in the Rite of Enrollment, a
Confirmation Retreat, a sponsor and service projects.
Enrollment and Fees
St. Peter
Parish values every learner regardless of ability. Our total resources will
provide an opportunity for every learner to reach his or her fullest
potential and benefit from the values of our Catholic center education.
Registration for all
classes is held at St. Peter's in the spring of each year. It is important
that we know by the end of May how many students will be enrolled so we can
adequately recruit faculty members and order sufficient texts and supplies.
Please contact the Religious Education Office for information on enrollment
fees. For students whose parents are
not enrolled parishioners in St. Peter parish an additional fee will be
charged. All fees are due at the
Parent Orientation held before classes begin.
Parent's Creed
I will teach my
child by my example, to regularly attend and actively participate in Sunday
and Holy Day Mass and by regularly receiving the sacraments of my
church.
I will prepare myself
for my role as primary religious educator of my child.
I will help my child to
understand that religious education and faith development are life-long
processes.
I will do my best to
support learning in the religious education program by developing a Christian
spiritual life at home.
I will teach my child
that religion is more than a 75-minute-per-week-commitment by becoming
involved in living as a committed Christian.
I will encourage and
discipline my child as required to provide proper preparation before class.
I will encourage my
child by my willing participation at parent meetings, special programs and my
child's sacramental preparation.
I will support our
religious education staff, faculty and students through prayer and
cooperation.
