St. Peter "Latchkey Program" provides personal and social experiences within a Christian environment. The program's goal is to encourage the development of each child to their fullest potential. We provide affection, support, guidance and loving discipline during the absence of the parent. Our staff encourages a good self image, positive attitude, and good manners.

Arrival And Departure Policy
Parents are responsible for escorting their child(ren) into the school each day and are required to sign them in. Parents are responsible for signing their child(ren) out. If your child is going to be picked up by someone other than yourself, please send in a handwritten note prior to or leave voice mail. (233-5527)

Food Service
St. Peter Food Service provides an optional breakfast. For the cost of the breakfast and payment procedures, please refer to the Fees Schedule in the back of your handbook.

Administration Of Medicine
No medication, food supplement, modified diet or fluoride supplement will be administered by the staff unless proper forms are filled out by a parent/guardian and a licensed physician/dentist. These forms are to be on file in the "Latchkey Office".

General Safety Policy

  1. No child will be left alone unsupervised during indoor or outdoor play.
  2. No child will be released to anyone other than the parents or legal guardian unless prior written arrangements and visual verification has been made with the staff members and/or the Coordinator.
  3. There is immediate access at all times to a working telephone located in the Latchkey Office.
  4. No spray aerosols will be used when children are in attendance.
  5. All child care members are required by law to immediately notify the local public Children Services Board when child abuse or neglect is suspected.
  6. Fire and tornado drills will occur at a minimum of one per month.
  7. On all field trips a staff member trained in First Aid will have a first aid kit available for use.
  8. An accident report form will be completed when an accident or injury occurs. A report will also be completed for any incident necessitating the administration of syrup of ipecac, or when emergency transportation of a child is required. This information will be shared with the parent/guardian when the child is picked-up or sooner if the situation dictates.

Medical Emergencies And Illness
In case of an accident/emergency, the Coordinator or person in charge will call 911 and the parent(s) will be notified immediately. The guidelines for emergency will be posted in our work area.

In case of illness, the child will be isolated from the other children. There will be one staff member
designated to watch the child until the parent(s) arrive.

Change In Attendance
If there is a change in the customary child care schedule, it is imperative that a written notification be presented or voice mail (233-5527) left on or before the date of the change.

Discipline
St. Peter "Latchkey Program" believes that the purpose of discipline is to help a child to control his/her emotions and actions, not to stop him/her from expressing feelings and moods. Above all, a child needs love, patience and understanding. Parents are urged to instill an appreciation of moral values in their child which will be nurtured in the Program's environment. Respect for self, others and property is stressed each day.

Methods Of Discipline

  1. Individual discussion of behavior with the child geared to the child's level of understanding.
  2. "Time Out" -- the child is removed from the group, but not from the room, for a short period of time.
  3. "Writing Sentences"--in some incidents the staff may request that the child write sentences to help them remember the rule.
  4. If repeated "time outs/sentences" occur or if the misbehavior continues, parents will be notified.

Change Of Clothing
The children will be playing on the floors, making crafts, and playing outside weather permitting. We encourage you to send play clothes especially for the after school program.

Late Fee
A fee is charged for any time that is spent in Latchkey after 6:00 p.m. A penalty of $1.00 per minute is assessed to the parents. Continued abuse of the tardiness will result in a conference with the Coordinator to discern continuation of the service.

Billing Procedures
Bills are sent out every two weeks. Payment is due within 15 days. If you are unable to pay, please contact the Pastor immediately.

Field Trips
Field trips will be planned for some of the non-school days. The attendance roster will be taken on all field trips, along with Field Trip Permission Forms, Emergency Transportation Forms and Authorized Pick Up Forms.
